NEW YORK: Hollywood stars Tom Cruise and fiancee Katie Holmes have signed a $40 million pre-nuptial agreement. Holmes, who delivered a baby girl, Suri, on 18 April, and Cruise, had spent weeks in devising the financial agreement, which spells out who gets what in case the two at any point of time decided to split.
Sources said the agreement envisages a $15-million trust for Holmes and Suri regardless of whether Cruise and Holmes married or not. If they indeed marry and later decide on a divorce, Holmes will receive an extra $25 million from Cruise.
The duo is set to get married in July and their pre-nuptials have been finalized, according to the sources.
Holmes' parents, who are slightly apprehensive about the haste with which she decided to have her baby even before the marriage and her decision to follow the Church of Scientology like Cruise, are now happy that her financial issues, especially the baby's interests, are taken care of.
Meanwhile, the date set for the marriage is said to be 1 July.
Cruise is now busy making Holmes undergo exercises so that she can shed some fat she gained during the pregnancy. She is said to have been put under Sue Fleming, owner of Buff Brides, which specializes in fitness programmes for future brides.
Cruise recently got a surprise. Brooke Shields congratulated him for his baby. The two actors have been into a feud during the last few months after Cruise reportedly openly criticized her for using prescription drugs to overcome depression following birth of her first son.
In a message, Shields told Cruise that she wishes him and Holmes well for their baby.
Incidentally, Shields too delivered a daughter, named Grier, on the same day Holmes did.
She said the "irony is perfect" that Grier and Suri were born on the same day.
