People in the News: New engagement for 'housewife'

Nicollette Sheridan is desperate no more. The hottie "Housewife" formerly married to Harry Hamlin is engaged to similarly divorced Michael Bolton -- not the guy in "Office Space" but the Grammy Award-winning singer who probably never will live down the fact that he didn't mention Percy Sledge during his acceptance speech for covering that singer's "When a Man Loves a Woman," confirmed ET Online and People magazine.

  • The Academy will rue the day it messed with Annie Proulx, author of the short story Ang Lee's "Brokeback Mountain" is based on. She aired her barely disguised outrage at the film and its actors getting ripped off in a column in The Guardian.

"I'd kiss you if you weren't so ugly" apparently doesn't apply to the chimps who are smooching Hollywood animal trainer Sid Yost. In this "Planet of the Apes" world, humans treat their simian friends nicely, even if the No Reel Apes campaign says otherwise. They want to sub in CGI for real monkeys, like in "King Kong."

Not that it was all she wrote, but here's the gist: "Hollywood loves mimicry, the conversion of a film actor into the spittin' image of a once-living celeb. But which takes more skill, acting a person who strolled the boulevard a few decades ago and who left behind tapes, film, photographs, voice recordings and friends with strong memories, or the construction of characters from imagination and a few cold words on the page?"

  • Latest weird (is there any other?) TomKat news: They're already married! So says New York's Daily News and The National Enquirer. Apparently an exchange of rings occurred in July during a Caribbean cruise aboard Scientology ship Freewinds.

  • On "Access Hollywood" Tuesday night, female celebrities chatted it up about the negative aspects of young women trying to follow in their small-waisted, diet-crazy lives. Carmen Electra confessed to her struggles in trying to attain a ballerina-perfect weight. Her meals during those days? One Starburst. Yeah, that's right. One little chewy burst. And for dinner? "Something more normal." Like what, two Starbursts?
